Iain.
LOTHIAN ROAD
Iain is based at our Lothian Road salon and is known as a precision cutter, who happens to be pretty handy with a tint brush too.
He is loved by clients and team alike for his gentle down to earth approach.
Iain is certainly not your ‘have you booked your holidays yet’ kind of hairdresser. When you are in his chair, you will find a man with a wide range of interests and eclectic conversation… Enjoy!
What inspired you to follow a career in the industry?
I had a lot of poor hairdressing experiences in my youth and was recommended to Cheynes by a girlfriend. It was a revelation! Purely and simply I wanted to give that experience to others.
How would you describe your personal style as a hairdresser?
Hopefully relaxed, casual but not too ‘fashion’. I’m too old to follow trendsetters nowadays!
If you could style the hair of any celebrity, past or present, who would it be (and why)?
I’d love to get my hands on Annie Lennox’s hair. Over the years she has ably demonstrated the versatility and variety achievable with short hair.
What’s the go-to product/tool you can’t live without (perfect if it’s available at Cheynes)?
I’d be lost without my razor (not just for long hair) or clippers. Craft Clay is just the best (shorter hair) finishing product.
What do you enjoy most about working with clients at your Cheynes salon?
Building relationships, sharing experience and hopefully just making someone’s day a little bit better.
Who are your style icons, or sources of creative inspiration? (celebs, musicians, influencers etc.
I tend to stumble upon inspiration so it could come from almost anywhere…. Music, art, architecture…
Favourite thing about working in your Cheynes Salon?
It sounds hackneyed but the team. From the newest, bright eyed recruit to the grizzled veterans who have known each other for 30 years and more.
How are you spending an ideal day off in Edinburgh? (specific places to visit, shop, eat/drink/party)
I live on the edge of Portobello so a walk on the prom, maybe a bite from Shrimp Wreck or Civerino’s. A pint in the Portobello Tap or maybe a proper lunch at Forresters Guild.
